Historical escape room with Virtual Reality

The Peace Treaty of Breda, was signed on the 31st of July 1667 In the Castle of Breda. This was the peace treaty between the Republic of The Seven United Netherlands, England, France and Denmark that ended the Second Dutch- English trade war: A trade war that transpired at sea and revolved around the over sea colonies. The Municipality of Breda want to bring this historic event to the attention of the people for the 350 years anniversary of the event. How do you connect this historic event from the past to the modern age?

How do you make it still relevant for visitors from this day and age?

Together with Lisette Spee Creative Concepts we developed the VR-escape room Peace in Progress. This escape room combines the virtual world with the real world and sets communication and collaboration as its primary goals.

One team of 4 to 6 players enters Professor Fred Forhandligs mysterious research Centre, which contains a working time machine. Something just happened! And the professor calls out to the players to restore the timeline. There is only one hour to solve all the puzzles!

One of the players will travel back in time through use of the VR goggles. The players are only able to solve all the puzzles when the two different rooms get connected through strong communication and collaboration. In this interactive VR installation the digital puzzles provide the clues and keys for the physical puzzles and vice versa.

The Peace Treaty of Breda was finally signed after long negotiations and different interests had to be compromised during this process. The participating team solves this problem in one hour, the real peace treaty took months, but you can experience the core of the story in this escape room. In this way we achieve education through entertainment. History cannot be changed, but you can learn something from it.

On the 20st of July the escape room premiered in the Holland Casino in Breda, at this moment it is part of the escape rooms of Riddle Room Best.
